A project deferred

Almost four years ago I released my first article on Epic Slant. It was about how Age of Conan lacked a proper guild user interface. It set the tone for what this site was all about. Epic Slant was a new project for me after coming off of a failed MMORPG news site. This was my home to discuss guild related issues and my general observations about MMORPGs. These observations typically came up when I was displeased about something. It amazes me that I have been at this for years. It also amazes me at how this blog has transformed and grown.

Epic Slant, these days, isn’t much of a blog. It has been the platform upon which Epic Slant Press was founded. That organization has transformed from a single author with no idea what he was doing into a small, moderately profitable publishing house. We are about to release our third book. A fourth is under way and we’re working on lining up some authors besides myself to publish. Those are all great things but I think we can all agree that Epic Slant has suffered.

I’m certain that me officially saying I’m closing shop here is no surprise to anyone. When a blogger doesn’t make a new post for months everyone assumes the blog has died. With that said, I’ve found that people like closure. It feels less diabolical to unsubscribe to a blog that admits it is closed. This is that closure for me and for you.

These days I’ve hitched my wagon to Trion’s Rift and, to be honest, I’m happier than I have been since early EverQuest II. Rift is a fantastic game that continues to delight me and my guild Iniquity. I simply do not get mad enough to complain about things here. I also feel that even though I could offer insight into guild issues it would come across as somewhat redundant for my readers and I. So I have to be honest with myself and with you and call a spade a spade.

For the foreseeable future I don’t anticipate writing for Epic Slant. My creative energies will be going towards my book projects, Epic Slant Press, and the Rift live stream. In time I might want to come back this way and make a post. The site will remain and be available to anyone looking for historical data. It will also be a handy press release engine about where Epic Slant Press will be on the convention circuit (although you can just watch the Epic Slant Press website for that too). Beyond that I will occasionally post updates on the Iniquity front page (http://iniquity.es) now that we have our new site up and running.

I want to say thank you to everyone that has read Epic Slant over the years. To the comment writers who come here to debate or agree with me I want you to know that I deep appreciate you. My fellow bloggers who have so kindly linked to me you have my gratitude. It has been a blast everyone and perhaps one day we can do it all again. Until then, be creative, take care of yourself, and most of all stay classy.
